Steve, un employé de bureau, mène une vie simple et heureuse. Il partage son existence entre son travail et sa vie de famille avec sa femme Alexandra et leurs deux ravissants bambins, Emma et Sam. Alors qu'il vient d'être fraîchement augmenté, Steve rentre chez lui, pour fêter son anniversaire en famille. Mais, alors qu'il pénètre dans son appartement, il découvre que sa femme et ses enfants ne sont plus là. En lieu et place, il trouve une cassette vidéo sur laquelle il voit sa femme qui lui annonce qu'elle le quitte. Il tente alors de sortir de son appartement pour la retrouver. C'est là qu'il découvre que toutes les issues sont hermétiquement closes. Alors qu'il tente d'utiliser son téléphone portable pour appeler à l'aide, il s'aperçoit que la batterie de l'appareil a été remplacée par une balle de pistolet...
