Lui, c'est Paul, vétéran de la guerre du Vietnam et ardent patriote. Exposé à l'Agent orange quand il était Marine, il souffre de sérieux troubles psychologiques et d'une paranoïa aiguë. Elle, c'est Lana, jeune femme profondément chrétienne qui a choisi de vivre en accord avec sa foi. Après plusieurs années passées en Afrique et au Moyen-Orient, elle rentre aux États-Unis pour s'engager dans une mission catholique qui vient en aide aux sans-abris. Elle cherche aussi à retrouver la trace de Paul, son oncle...
